In Barcelona, Gaudi rules the skyline. Arguably, he is the most unique architect of an age. Being bold led to greatness. Eight of his sites are deemed worthy to bear the name UNESCO World Heritage. These buildings will never be duplicated (I mean, whoever would dare to stand this type of structure again):
Sagrada Familia
Casa Vicens
Güell Pavilions.
Palau Güell
Park Güell
Casa Mila
Casa Batllo.
Despite the marvel of these across the city, one of my favorite works were his street lamps. Maybe, I like the more subtle works. Made for gas lighting, these were one of his first commissions. The city had planned to put them up all over, but only six were initially constructed.
Notes:
- Of course, the headline picture is of those same lamps. Taken sometime in 2016 or 2017, the city is extremely walkable.
