See It Live

Remember this commercial? The singer finishes his set and shouts, “Thank you, Detroit!” Then, the guitar player shuffles over, leans in, and whispers, “Detroit was last night.”

It’s one of my favorites.

Considering bands are sometimes in three to four cities each week, this scenario may be more common than you think. Recently, I saw the Head and the Heart, and the lead couldn’t remember (at least at first) where he was the night before. After crisscrossing the Mid-West (Madison to Indianapolis to Peoria to Columbus), I’d get confused too. Truth be told, I’m just happy bands get out and play, and this show might have been one of the best (right up there with Jason Isbell, Jack Johnson, Counting Crows, Taylor Swift, U2, Dave; well, you name it). There is an art to playing live. Cheers for the memorable performances.
