Running Changes

For my morning run, I recently dropped my go-to playlists and took on podcasts. I figured if you have an hour on the treadmill might as well leverage the time to learn. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • The James Altucher Show
  • The Tim Ferris Show
  • Reply All (Going off air)
  • On Being
  • The Moment
  • Curl-Walt-Delete (Walt is retiring, sigh)
  • Freakonomics
  • Hardcore History
  • Revisionist History

It’s been a good run, but yesterday I switched back to music–good to change it up now and then. And Pearl Jam’s Backspacer might be the best running album end to end. Short. Builds in just the right spots. As I came up a hill of broken asphalt, the sun shone on the horizon. I spread my arms like an airplane. Kicked up the pace. Then, I shouted back to the wind:

See the path cut by the moon
For you to walk on
See the waves on distant shores
Awaiting your arrival

Dream the dreams of other men
You’ll be no one’s rival
Dream the dreams of others then
You will be no one’s rival

Yes, my shoes echoed on the asphalt. See the path.

Notes:

  • For this picture, I snapped a shot while running in downtown Nashville. The route started near the riverfront, toward the courthouse, across the river to Titan’s Stadium, circled back, and finished through Honky Tonk village of sorts before heading back.
