Retirement

Walt Mossberg, tech editor extraordinary, is retiring in June. In this short article, he reflects on his career and, more importantly, why he loves his job. It’s a joy to see someone loving what they do. Earlier today, I listened to his podcast Ctrl-Walt-Delete, Walt and Nilay talk Apple, Microsoft, and Verizon.

About halfway through the episode, he compares Apple and Google photo services as he’s compiling photos from his career. He makes this comment (not a perfect quote), “It takes more than one person to have a good career.”

This is such a profound and insightful quote, kind of jumps out of nowhere and makes you think. Best of luck, Walt. More adventures await.

Notes:

  • Mossberg had a history of reviewing products across the technology space and challenging founders to do better. I hope his legacy continues to drive the industry forward.
  • The picture depicts a MacBook Pro, iPhone, Magic Mouse, and an old fashion mechanical keyboard. And a glass of sweet tea, the southern version of Gatorade.
